Update: At the end of this post you will find step by step instructions for this blanket.
Hello beautiful people,
After a short but eventful break, I am back to the world of knitting and crochet. I always carry my knitting during drives whether it is 30 mins or 9 hours. Since I have been traveling, I carried a knitting project with me for the flight and they proved to be good company. After a lot of research turns out you CAN carry knitting on flights. So this blanket was ideal as it didn’t have too many colors or too much pattern. The pattern is easily memorizable and does not require constant attention.
The pattern involves an open star stitch. It is a super easy stitch.
R1: K2 *YO K3 (pass the first stitch of the last three over the other two). Repeat * across.
Even rows are Purls.
R3: K1 *YO K3 (pass the first stitch of the last three over the other two). Repeat * across.
This blanket pattern has four colors
Color A: 10 rows of open star stitch
Color B: 10 rows of stockinette stitch
Color C: 10 rows of stockinette stitch
Color D: 10 rows of open star stitch
I repeated this in the order of colors I wanted. you can basically use a color and also use random color combinations for this. I really like the texture that this stitch gives and stockinette balances it really well.

Thank you so much! So glad you like it. 🙂
How many stitches would suffice for the star pattern leaving aside the border knit stitches? would 147 in total work?
Hey, i would do multiples of 5 to be able to end the row the same way as in the pattern. So 145 or 150 stitches. Let me know if that helped..
Love the pattern & colors what size needle did you use?
Hey Beth, so glad you like the pattern. I use US size 7 needles.
Do you use straight needles? Isn’t it hard to fit all those stitches on straight needles?
Hey Susan, I use circular cable needles in US size 7 for all projects. I am really used to them. It may be hard to fit those many stitches on the straight needles. I have never tried it though. Hope this helps!! 🙂
Pls tell me how many skeins of each color you used. I’m using Caron yarn also. Thanks
Hey Lynn, i usually have caron yarn lying around so i never really counted the number of skeins. But if you are using 4 colors, then one skein each should be plenty for a blanket.
