Furnishing fabric for market bags

As I get into sewing some more, I’ve really enjoyed using furnishing fabric as it is super thick for market totes. Here are the ones I’ve been working on this week.

I learnt sewing the market tote on youtube and made considerable changes to the pattern. At some point, will definitely share the pattern for it as a more detailed blog.

But here is what furnishing fabrics look like as bags. I buy these fabrics from IKEA and Lincraft. You can find their collection of fabrics online.

These bags are super sturdy as their handles are sewed in all the way to the base. I think that a contrast of white handles brings out the design of the bag a little more.

The idea is to be able to repurpose unused curtains into bags and use them for groceries. Reduce the use of plastic today. Let’s be more conscious towards the environment together! Please ship me some of your unused furnishing fabric and I can repurpose them into bags for you.

Coming up I have an exciting knitted shawl project to start and my first quilting project underway.

Have a great crafty weekend.

Crochet Ripple Blanket No. 3

Hello People around the world,

Here is the blanket I made in Australia. I made this for a friend. I have a couple more lined up which I have to get to quickly. This has been my favorite pattern and its been so long since I worked on this pattern. It feels amazing to have been working on this.

Let me give you some deets on this blanket:

Pattern: Attic24 Neat ripple pattern. This is a free pattern that comes with a tutorial (for real!! If you are a beginner crocheter you can try this beauty).

Materials:

Lincraft double knitting and esther yarn

For the DK yarn I used US size H crochet hook and for the esther yarn I used US size G just because the yarn thickness was a little different. That made the blanket a little uniform in tension.

Finished dimensions: 32X40”

I also personalized this blanket using the crochet alphabets pattern by Moogly which is also a free resource.

Have a great crafty weekend.

Moved to Australia!

Hello there beautiful people,

We have been planning this move from the States to Australia for about 6 months and it has finally happened. I am so excited to explore the yarn and colors here. I did come here from one winter to the next but that is the best season to wear all of knitted things, and, of course, I am really excited to be with my husband here.

The day I landed, I was jet-lagged and I dragged my husband out of the house early in the morning for a run and many days since, it has been so great. Bird watching and taking in the new culture.

The fun is now about to begin, I am going to start going to yarn shops here and get my store going again. Any Australian folks out there who can help me out with handmade goods selling website that are more popular than etsy? Also any preferred yarn brands you would recommend for the two categories: for indulgence or economical. Any input is appreciated.

During the long flight, I have been working on my gryffindor scarf. I will definitely post once it gets done. Here are some of the birds spotted during out runs and outing in the last week. Parrots and Parakeets flying around just like that in the cold. So beautiful to see them flying around free.

I never imagined that I would be coming to a third continent in the near future but here I am and loving every bit of it.

Hope to meet with some Australian knitters and crocheters soon..

Ocean Crochet blanket and more…

This last couple weeks I have been working on my ocean Blanket which is inspired from my last visit to Florida Keys.

It has colors of blues and greens together. I love how calming it was to crochet this blanket and some charity hat knitting while I prepared to defend my Ph.D. thesis.

A couple of days ago, I defended my thesis and now I am on the other side of graduate school. Such an incredible experience. Made so many new friends. A new family in Indianapolis.

So as I move to a new beginning. I have to let go of my creations in the US (I don’t have any room to carry so much yarn and blankets). I am doing some charity knitting. I made this oceans moss stitch blanket for that.

Pattern:Moss stitch bold stripes crochet blanket.

It is a free pattern and is such a great way to use up my scrap yarn.

Have a great crafty long weekend everyone.
